DOODLING by Suzanne Quillen From the June 2006 issue of Creative Keepsakes
Doodling is not a new trend, but it has never been hotter than it is right now. Not only does it add whimsy and flair to your scrapbook pages, but it's fun to do! There are no wrong or right ways to doodling so have some fun and make it yours. All you really need are a good fine-tip pen, a pencil, eraser and creativity to go from drab to fab!
In this online tutorial, you will learn the basic swirl, the loopy swirl and extensions. At that point, you will have a good understanding of how to create swirls all your own!
BASIC SWIRL
Step 1: Use your pencil to make a nice flowing swirl. Step 2: Trace over your pencil marking with your fine-tip pen and then add your "depth lines". Step 3: Fill in your depth line spaces with your pen.

LOOPY SWIRL
Step 1: Use your pencil to make a nice flowing swirl. Note the difference between the basic swirl is that we have now added a small loop. The loop should be on the opposite side of the swirl. In the example, you will see my loop goes up, and my swirl goes down. Step 2: Trace over your pencil marking with the pen and add depth lines. I like adding my depth lines at the tail (where you start your swirl), over the loop, and around the crown of the swirl. Step 3: Fill in depth line spaces with your pen.

EXTENSIONS Extensions are a combination of basic swirls and loopy swirls connected together to create one artistic accent. Use the steps above to create your own!

The following examples show a myriad of ways you can incorporate swirls to bring not only interest, but excitment to your pages! Once you've practiced and build up the confidence to apply pen to cardstock, then you will have become a doodling diva! Good luck!
